Where does the Strathmore Children’s Chorus rehearse and perform?

Rehearsals for all ensembles are held at the Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD 20852. Special rehearsals may be held offsite with prior notification (typically in the Bethesda or Rockville area).

All ensembles rehearse on either Monday or Tuesday evenings.

Each ensemble will perform a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert each year.  Additional  special performances may be scheduled with notification. Summer tours (domestic or international) may be arranged through invitation and as an optional music experience for choristers.

Winter and Spring Concerts are at the Music Center at Strathmore; additional/special performances traditionally are held in the metro area.  Any additional performance dates will be announced will be both announced to the applicable ensembles and posted on the SCC website Calendar.

What styles of music do the children perform?

Strathmore Children’s Chorus ensembles learn and perform a wide range of choral music, from medieval hymns to modern pop. Lyrics are often in languages other than English, and the selection of music is appropriate to the age of each ensemble. Music is chosen to enrich each child's musical education and experience, and to challenge them to work together and accomplish a gratifying performance of challenging choral works.

Please note some of the repertoire selections for the Strathmore Children’s Chorus are drawn from a wealth of classic choral music, much of which has a long and rich history based on religious texts, and may also include patriotic music. We perform a Winter Concert each year which may include music representing major religions. Rehearsals during a large part of the first semester focus on the Winter Concert repertoire and may include some secular holiday, winter-themed, Christmas, Hannukah, and/or Kwanzaa songs.

Please contact the managing director if you have concerns about the repertoire.
